July 16, 2018 Teaching lots and a Flat Tire!
July 16, 2018
Hello,
We had District Council on Tuesday. We have been taking turns cooking for all the missionaries for lunch after the meeting. This week it was our turn so we made Filipino food, Chicken Adobe and I made Caramel Brownies. It was a lot of work because neither of us had ever cooked for that many people (12) and most of our cooking pots are small. It was good that it turned out good.
We had a lesson with three little girls. Their Grandma is a member and wants them to learn and get baptized. Their Mom will not let them unless they really have a testimony, which is why we are teaching them. We did an object lesson with a tie to teach about prayer. Sister Henrie had taught me the object lesson. It went well and the girls got into it. We should be able to continue to teach them.
There is an elderly lady in the ward named Sister Kimble. She lives in a home care center. It is a house with a couple that takes care of 6 elderly people. They told us that we could help when they have their activity day. So we came to help and played Bingo with Sister Kimble. Sister Kimble loves Bingo and the other residents will not play with her so it made her very happy. The people that run the home are also interested in what we do.
My first week in my new area we got a referral for a member. We have been trying to connect with her since then. We had a dinner set up for this week, and it seemed like it was going to fall through, because she was not responding to our texts or calls. We got a phone call saying that the dinner was happening and to come over right then. We had dinner with her and her friend who told her about the church. We taught her about the Restoration and she asked some sincere questions. We hope to be able to meet with her again, but we will have to let the Young Single adult missionaries teach her.
We went to a really yummy steak house for a dinner this week. We got some really yummy appetizers, prime rib, and dessert. It was good, but I ate too much. Sister Mabunga had never had prime rib before, so it was good she got to try it.
My bike got a flat tire. I could tell that it was getting low so I was going to pump it up a bit, but when we got outside it was completely flat. We had to borrow some tools and buy a patch, but we got it fixed. It had been patched before and the old patch was not working any more.
So we ended up walking a lot while we were working on getting the tools to fix the flat tire. While we were walking Gillian, saw us. She called us and ended up giving us a ride. She had just gotten a job at a bowling alley that will let her have Sunday's off. She had been working on getting a job at a casino that would have made her work on Sundays so we were really happy for her.
We had a lesson with Gillian and Daniel and invited Daniel to prepare for baptism on a specific date. Daniel accepted. Gillian seemed surprised that he said yes, but it also made her happy. They both came to church yesterday and stayed for the 2nd hour, which they do not normally do.
Sister Mabunga has been sick the past couple of days, so we are going to relax more today than normal.
Love, Sister Vernon
